As the birthplace of poet Gabriele D’Annunzio, Pescara harmoniously blends history, art, and modernity, offering a unique mix of tradition and innovation.

As ASSIOANS, we think that sociality is a key part of our event since it reinforces networking, scientific collaborations and a sense of community. That is why we are trying to make your stay a cozy memory. Apart from our coffee break and lunches that will be served during the workshops, we have organized three social events:

1. On May 29th – The social dinner with live music and a DJ set after dinner will take place at Alcyone Beach Club, Viale della Riviera, 24, 65123 Pescara PE, starting at 8:30 pm.
2. On May 30th – Optional casual dinner for those who will remain (payment on site)
3. On May 31st (only with reservation) – There will be a bicycle excursion (assisted bikes on demand) at the famous “Trabocchi Coast”. The guided tour will start from Ortona port, and there will be a stop at one of the most famous “trabocco”. On the way back we will have a light (!) lunch included (“paranza” fried fish). A bike trip along the Costa dei Trabocchi, from Ortona to San Vito Chietino.

Costa dei Trabocchi is a fascinating stretch of coastline in Abruzzo that extends for about 70 km and includes 15 municipalities, characterized by breathtaking natural scenery and ancient fishing structures called Trabocchi. Along this coast, you can admire views that include cliffs dropping straight into the sea, charming small beaches, and lush forests, creating a varied and evocative natural environment.

The cycling path “Via Verde” winds along the coast for about 42 km and has been built on a disused railway track, offering a scenic route that allows exploration of the area in an ecological and sustainable way. The cycle path is perfect for families and cyclists of all levels, providing enchanting views of the sea and the hinterland.

The stretch of coast between Ortona and San Vito Chietino, approximately 15 km long, is particularly captivating. In this area, you can admire around 10 trabocchi, each with a unique history, contributing to a charming and evocative atmosphere.

Excursion suitable for all levels: the route is mostly flat with some slight elevation changes.

Program*

• Departure around 8:30 AM from Pescara (bus or your own vehicle on your choise)
• Bicycle pickup – electric or traditional as per reservation
• Guided cycling excursion from Ortona to San Vito Chietino (about 15 km each way): stops for photographs are planned
• Visit to a trabocco with an explanation of how fishing machines work
• Lunch in Ortona Beach
• Return to Pescara in the afternoon (around 5 PM, to be confirmed – early returns by 3 PM are available upon request)

The fee includes:

• Bicycle rental, helmet upon request
• Guide
• Reserved access to the trabocco and an explanation of its operation
• Lunch (tasting of fish appetizers – “fritto di paranza” -deep fried seafood-, water, wine, and fruit)
• Transport Pescara-Ortona and back – depending on the option booked

Transport by own vehicle: the area is equipped with parking; using your own vehicle allows autonomy while respecting the schedule of the group.

Participation fee: Eur 65,00

Participation with own vehicle: Eur 55,00

In case of extreme weather events, the programme may be subject to changes or cancellation; in this case, a portion of the paid fee, between 80 and 100%, will be refunded depending on the specific situation and the booking method (own vehicle or provided by the organization).
